Boskalis consortium wins Hollandse Kust West Beta export cabling contract

AMSTERDAM: Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V., a number one global services supplier working within the dredging, maritime infrastructure and maritime services sectors, has been awarded the Hollandse Kust West Beta export cable contract by TenneT, in consortium with Orient Cables (NBO).

The contract scope comprises the set up of two 65-kilometer-long export cables that will join the deliberate Hollandse Kust West Beta 700 MW offshore wind farm to TenneT’s onshore grid within the Netherlands. Furthermore, Boskalis will set up a 9-kilometer-long 66kV interconnector cable between the Hollandse Kust West Alpha and Hollandse Kust West Beta offshore substations.

Boskalis will execute this contract in consortium with its partner NBO that will design and provide the high-voltage cable system. The two 220kV AC cable circuits will come ashore close to the existing onshore excessive voltage substation at Wijk aan Zee, the Netherlands. The worth of this contract for Boskalis is taken into account to be ‘sizable’.

For this project Boskalis will ship an built-in solution of in-house services together with the removal of unexploded ordnance from the seabed, geotechnical and geophysical surveys, beach and seabed preparation works and the laying and burial of the cables. The Hollandse Kust West Beta offshore windfarm is anticipated to enter service in 2025.

With this project and thru its client TenneT, Boskalis is advancing the energy transition by making renewable energy available within the Netherlands. The Hollandse Kust (West Beta) project is a half of the Dutch nationwide roadmap to obtain a 49% discount in CO2 emissions by 2030.

The firm provides creative and innovative all-round options to infrastructural challenges within the maritime, coastal and delta areas of the world.
